Event Details

DESIAP co-founder, Yoko Akama will be speaking at the Social Problem Solution Design Forum held in South Korea on the 25th of September 2019. This event is held as part of the annual Seoul Design Week. This year's theme is 'Impact on Social Innovation'. The list of international speakers includes Ifeoma Ibo, Yoori Koo, Sookhee Park,  Sarah Shulman, Sang Yeop Han and Joonsang Baek. Yoko will share the work that DESIAP has been doing on impact and evaluation in social innovation. Her talk is summarised below:

Impact and evaluation in designing social innovation

Measuring social impact is hard, especially those that are long-term, culturally-grounded and community-centred. Recognising that traditional evaluation models are no longer adequate, this presentation reports key findings from Designing Social Innovation in Asia-Pacific (DESIAP) research. We gathered change-makers from Malaysia, Thailand, Myanmar, Cambodia, Indonesia and The Philippines to identify challenges and opportunities related to evaluating the impact of their work. From this, we propose key features of evaluative practices in designing social innovation and discuss shifts that we see as necessary to move from traditional evaluation towards developing alternative approaches.

She will also be speaking about DESIAP at the Seoul Upcycling Festival 2019 on the 26th September 2019.
