Studio L

Osaka, Japan & Yamagata, Japan

Studio L undertakes approximately 80 design projects aimed at rejuvenating communities ranging from villages of just a few dozen residents and regional cities to some of the biggest commercial facilities in Japan. In contrast to other approaches that aims to reverse the population exodus or revive local economy, the co-founder Yamazaki tackles these issues through ‘community design’

The team use sketching and design to provide necessary support so that residents themselves can come together in ways that enable resolution to their own problems. From invisible design (community design, cultivating participators) to visualization process, many methods are used in design to solve various social issues faced by local communities today, such as food, agriculture, ecology, social welfare, tourism, art, education, environment, energy, medical services and disaster prevention.
